FENCING CLUB
The decision to form a fencing club in Dunedin was made at a public meeting in the Y.M.C.A. Assembly Hall. The values of fencing as a sport and the need for a club in Dunedin were emphasised by Mrs E. Mitchell. Mr Roy Dickison explained a number of proposals dealing with subscriptions, methods of raising funds, and general organisation. The committee appoined to enrol members and make arrangements for the opening of the club next March was: :Dr F. W. Mitchell (chairman), Messrs R. J. Dickison, R. H. Daniels, Mrs E. Mitchell, and Miss M. Houlker. About 30 of those present indicated their ■willingness to join the club. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr R. Dickison gave a demonstration of the various guards and attacks used with the foil, epee, and sabre. Mrs Mitchell and Miss Houlker demonstrated the Grand Salute, and a demonstration bout was staged between Mrs Mitchell and Mr Dickison.
