CLOSER LIAISON
WATERSIDE UNION" OFFICIALS
AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 25. Two councillors of the Australian Waterside Workers’ Federation, Mr V. McNamara, a prominent Melbourne union official, and Mr A. Graham, assistant secretary of the Brisbane branch of the organisation, will arrive at Auckland to-morrow on their way to the biennial conference of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union, which opened in Wellington to-day. They are expected to attend the conference on Thursday. Reciprocal visits between Waterside officials in Australia and New Zealand have been developed , considerably and they have done much to lead to the formation of a joint executive for the waterside unions in the two countries. Additional importance is attached to the visit of the Australian delegates on this occasion in view of the mutual preparations to attend the projected conference at Honolulu of maritime organisations in Pacific countries. Domestic issues are at present being discussed at the Wellington conference, which is under the chairmanship of the national president, Mr H. Barnes, of Auckland, and mutual problems affecting Australia and New Zealand are being deferred until the arrival of Mr McNamara and Mr Graham.
