BALLANTYNE’S FIRE
INQUIRY BY:, COMMISSION
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS DESIRABLE
P./L CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 25. i A suggestion that the Local Government Commission should conduct the inqiiiry into the fire at Ballantyne’s last Tuesday was made to the Government, but the Prime Minister indicated during his visit to Christchurch that this particular commission would not be delegated to hear the evdence, said an official of the North Canterbury Labour Representation 'Committee this morning. “Mr Fraser told us that .it had, been suggested, but no members of Cabinet were in favour ,of it,” he added. Mr Fraser had stated that the disaster warranted a special type of commission, and that it would be" better to have an engineer, for example, and men who knew something about fire fighting as members. He said that an announcement about the inquiry would be. ' madq shortly.
