REQUIRED BY SIAM

WAR-TIME PUPPET PREMIER

DISARMAMENT OF ARMY Rec. 9 p.m. BANGKOK, Nov. 23. The Premier, Khuang Aphaiwong, said to-day that one of his first tasks would be to disarm the Free Thai Army; which was organised and led by Britain and the United States during the war to fight the Japanese. Aphaiwong, apologising for keeping Marshal Pibut Songgram in the Government, said he knew the world was prejudiced against Songgram for serving as puppet Premier under the Japanese, but declared that Siam now needed Songgram’s strength for internal safety. Songgram would be given , the task of disarming the Free Thai Army, and later he would be demoted from his present position of supreme commander of all armed forces to that of army commander only.
