“LEARN TO SWIM”

Instruction at the Baths Most of the country schools are taking advantage of the instruction being given at the “ Learn- to Swim ” week, which commenced at the municipal baths yesterday morning. Misses E. P. Brown and J Peacock, of the physical welfare branch of the Internal Affairs Department, are in charge of the work, and were busy yesterday afternoon with classes from country schools and children from the main town schools after school hours. The country schools in the syllabus for the week are Maheno, Ardgowan, Teschemakers, Windsor, Weston, Enfield, with St. Thomas’s and St. Joseph’s from town. Instruction is to be given at Pukeuri and Papakaio at the baths of these schools. Yesterday was fine, and the promise is for continued good weather, so the opportunity for North Otago children to learn to swim is one of which the fullest advantage should be taken.
