DUNEDIN’S SLOW SCORING

NORTH-EAST VALLEY WINS

A sparkling century by B. Sutcliffe marked the second day’s play in the match between North-East Valley and Dunedin. North-East Valley won on the first innings. D. McDonald and J. O’Sullivan resumed Dunedin’s innings and combined in a valuable partnership. The rate of scoring was slow, 88 runs taking 150 minutes to compile. The tail-enders collapsed, and only four runs were scored at a cost of three wickets, I. Walsh bowling particularly well. North-East Valleys opening partnership between Sutcliffe and R. Jones realised 126 runs, before Jones, with his score at 37, played on a ball from Tobin. Both men batted attractively, with Sutcliffe setting the pace and the century came up in 55 minutes. Sutcliffe’s innings was not without blemish, but he hammered the Dunedin attack mercilessly, hitting 16 4’s and four 6 s before he was caught at long stop with his score at 128. His century occupied 90 minutes. Scores: — *, North-East Valley First innings .. .. 169 Second Innings B. Sutcliffe, c Rodden, b O’Sullivan 128 R. Jones, b Tobin 37 H. Ottway, c Rodden, bS.
