NEW CHIEF-OF-STAFF
UNITED STATES ARMY GENERAL BRADLEY’S APPOINTMENT Rec 8 p.m. WASHINGTON, Nov. 21. General Omar Bradley was named yesterday by President Truman to succeed General Eisenhower as United States Army Chief of Staff. A former commander of the United States First Army and Twelfth Army Group in Western Europe and at present veterans’ administrator, General Bradley will go to the Department of the Army on December 1, though President Truman did not set a definite date when he would assume General Eisenhower’s duties. Mr Truman sa i that it had not been finally fixed when General Eisenhower—who is also being frequently discussed as a possible Republican Presidential candidate next year—will become president of the Columbia University. It is expected, however, that he will hand over to General Bradley before April 1. In the meantime Genera] Bradley will conduct a survey of the army’s operations both here and abroad.
