WOMEN’S INTERESTS

REPRESENTATION ON STANDARDS COUNCIL P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 22. The importance of having an adequate representation of women's interests on the newly-constituted Standards Council was emphasised in ■m interview by. Mrs H. J. Barnicoat. a member of the council. Of the Dominion’s total production of consumer goods marketed in New Zealand, 80 per cent, was purchased by women, Mrs Barnicoat said. From this fact came women’s interests in standards for consumer goods. What they wanted was some sort of certification by which to assess the actual worth of goods desired and to make their choice accordingly. At present, she said, chaos existed in the sizing of women’s and children’s clothing, and she was hopeful that the aggravating confusion would be eliminated by the issue of standard specifications.
