MEMORIAL PLAQUE
UNVEILING AT ST. KILDA Yesterday afternoon, in the presence of some 200 people, a wooden plaque bearing the names of four members of the Ocean Beach Scout Group who were killed during .the second world war was unveiled at a memorial service in the group's hall at St. Kilda. The plaque was hand-carved in appropriate Scout designs, the four -names being inscribed in nickel plating on each side of a centre design of burning campfire logs. The men to whom the memorial was dedicated were Cubmasters L. Lloyd. G. Newman and J. Donaldson and Rover Scout N. Newall. The unveiling was performed by Rover Leader C. S. Middlebrook of the Services’ Rover Crew.
The Mayor, Mr Cameron, the Mayor of St. Kilda, Mr Rutherford, Scout officials and representatives of the R.S.A., and the Second N.Z.E.F. Association were present. The officiating minister was the Rev. S. D. Baira, chaplain of the group. Delivering the address, Mr E. Tibbits stressed the point that loyalty to the dead rested in the making of a supreme effort to see that the need for such loss of life should not again arise. Mr W. Pullar. who received the plaque on behalf of the parents, suggested that a yearly service'be held in memory of those who had fallen
