BOROVANSKY BALLET
SEASON OPENS TO-NIGHT At His Majesty’s Theatre to-night J. C. Williamson's Borovansky Ballet will begin its season with a performance of " Les Sylphides,” with music by Chopin, " Coppelia." with music by Delibes, and “Le Beau Danube,” with music by Johann Strauss. The ballets will be accompanied by a full symphony orchestra, which is under the direction of the distinguished Continental conductor, Kurt Herweg, and the work of the talented corps de ballet is a feature of each of the ballets. Tamara Tchinarova, the brilliant Russian ballerina, last visited New Zealand as a principal member of the Monte Carlo Russian Ballet, and Serge Bousloff, another fine dancer and actor, was also a member of that organisation. Besides producing the ballets, Edouard Borovan-
sky displays his outstanding artistry in “ Coppelia " and in “ Le Beau Danube.” Edna Busse and Martin Rubinstein appeared here previously with the Borovansky company, and since then they have both reached the highest standard in ballet. Kathleen Gorham, a 17-year-old Australian ballerina, will make her first appearance here in “ Sylphides.” Other principals are Joan Potter, Phyllis Kennedy, <V. Trunoff, Leon Kellaway, Alfred Rosa, Eugene Marie, Ngaire Harrison, Sheila McDonald and Janet Wilkie, a young . Wellingtonian. There are 80 travelling members of the company, including an orchestra of 20, players. The box plan and the day sales will be at His Majesty’s Theatre to-day.
