INTERESTS OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN P A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 21. The protection of women and children in the Wellington area against assaults was discussed recently by a deputation from the Wellington Housewives’ Association with the Commissioner of Police, Mr J. Cummings, states a report issued by the association. . „ , The deputation was informed, the report states, that more stringent police methods were being adopted, that extra patrols were on duty, and that a large number of women police were to be employed, especially near parks and reserves. The desirability was stressed of the police being immediately notified of any cases so that patrol cars could rapidly reach the scene. The association urged the need for more severe penalties for offences against women and chlidren. for a considerable improvement in the supervision of parks and reserves, and for greatly increased street lighting.
