INTERCLUB SWIMMING

KIWI CLUB’S CARNIVAL SOME GOOD PERFORMANCES Some excellent times were registered at the Kiwi Amateur Swimming Club's interclub carnival in the Municipal Baths last night. The New Zealand women’s backstroke champion, Miss •N. Lane, covered the 100 Yards Interclub Backstroke Handicap Race in 73sec—one second outside the New Zealand record—and in the 100 Yards Interclub Freestyle Handi. cap, Miss B. Casey, Dominion women’s champion, clocked 67 l-ssec A feature of the programme was the 56 2-3 Yards Interclub Butterfly Stroke Handica , which was the first official race stipulating the butterfly stroke, to be held in Dunedin. There were only two starters T. Logan (University) winning the race in the excellent time of 44 l-ssec. At the conclusion of the carnival the president of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, Mr D. F Watson, presented the trophies. The Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs Cameron, attended the carnival, and were welcomed by the club’s president, Mr E C. Isaacs. The Mayor expressed his keen interest in the progress of swimm ng in the city and said that it was hoped to have an Olympic pool just as soon as the position regarding labour and materials eased up Results (abbreviations—K.
