TROTTING NOTES

f By the Sporting Editor November 22, 29 Wellington T.C. December 13 .. .. New Brighton T.C. December 26 .. .. Ashburton T.C. December 26 .. Gore T.C Jottings Watcher has been retired from racing, and has been mated with Direct Heir. First Arion should be the hardest horse to beat in the two trotting events at the Wairio meeting. Judged on his form in the final event at Addington, Jeeves should soon pick up a stake. Bright Prospects Indian Triumph collected third placings in two of the two-mile races at Addington, and her prospects for an early win look bright. Early Win Indicated Judged on recent form, Lady Ngaio should win a race soon. In seven starts this season she has collected three seconds and a third. Too Liable to Break Castigate is well enough placed to win the Metropolitan Handicap at Wellington to-morrow if he would only keep to the correct gait throughout. Below Expectations Loyal Nurse looked well when produced at the Cup meeting, but she ran below expectations. She is not likely to be in favour for any of her early engagements.

Lease of Addington A final draft lease of the Addington trotting grounds to the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club for 100 years

was approved on Wednesday by the North Canterbury Hospital Board, and authority was given for the board’s seal to be fixed •to the lease. Mr O. G. McKellar said that the lease was very different from the original lease, as it was now laid down that the land must be used for sport.

Southern Improver Keymaster, who had been racing consistently to register two second placings and two third placings in his four races this season gave a fine performance to win the Waverley Trot by a length and a-half from First Arion at the Southland Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday. A promising four-year-old gelding. Keymaster is by Dillon Hall from Hymenial, by Worthy Bond from Lovematch, by Four Chimes from Bay Belle, by King Harold from Black Bess, by Mainsail (a thoroughbred).
