Spare Part looks a good proposition for place bettors at the Cup meeting Nominations for the Dunedin Jockey Club’s Cup meeting on December 26 and 27 are due on December 9. Lord Dtmdonald’s chance in the Cup would be improved if the going happened to be soft.
Stagestruck will not be a starter in the Stewards’ Handicap. Indian Dawn should be worth following at the Cup meeting at Riccarton. Old Bill Mare
In her six most recent starts Miss' Bairnsfather has built up a recdrd of a win, three seconds, a third and a fourth. The Old Bill mare should pay expenses at Riccarton.
Dunedin-owned Youngster Trident finished second in the McLean Stakes to Magical, and occupied the same position behind Shadamai in the Juvenile Handicap on the second day of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s spring meeting. That form will no doubt bring her support from place bettors on the Welcome Stakes. May Not Stay The Wild Chase mare Wild Ribbon may not See out the two-mile journey of the Cup. She shows her best form when allowed to make her own rules and regulations out in front of a field. Derby Candidate Excellency finished second in each of her two races this season, Kartikeya beating her in the Dunedin Guineas and Regal Gem heading her in the Desert Gold Stakes. She has brilliant speed and her showing in the Derby to-morrow will prove whether she is capable of running out a journey beyond a mile. By Foxbridge

Hawke’s Bay Guineas. In each race he was followed home by Sweet Nymph, who is also a Derby candidate. Distinction is by Foxbridge from Arawa Rose, and is trained at Trentham by W. J. Bromby. Champion Jockey’s Mounts In the New Zealand Cup Gay Stroller will be ridden by W. J. Broughton, who will also ride Thimble in the New Zealand Derby, Voltaic in the Stewards’ Handicap, Air Belle in the Welcome Stakes. Mesalliance in the Riccarton Handicap and Robin Redbreast in the Spring Nursery Handicap. Broughton has ridden the winner of the Stewards’ Handicap three times in the last four years. He has won the Welcome Stakes twice, the Derby once and the New Zealand Cup once, on Spearful in 1931. Neptune Filly The last occasion on which a filly was successful in the Derby was in 1932, when Silver Scorn was the winner. A filly with prospects to-morrow is Sweet Nymph, who was got by Neptune from Sugar Kandy, by Colombo from Belle Mere, a sister to Beau Pere. Sweet Nymph ran second in the Hawke’s Bay Guineas and third in the Wellington Guineas.
