PLEASANT EXPERIENCE
AUSTRALIAN GOLFERS’ TOUR
FELICITOUS TRIBUTE FROM MANAGER p.a. Auckland, Nov. 20.
“The tour from our point of view has been a wonderful experience. Our reception everywhere was more than kind, and we have learned a good deal which should be useful to Australian golf,” said Mr C. L. Winser, manager of the Australian golf team, in a farewell interview before the departure of the team for Sydney. “ I was particularly impressed with the various aspects of management of the game in New Zealand,” Mr Winser said. “ Though there seems to be some opposition to the policy of decentralisation of management from the New Zealand Council to the various affiliated provincial associations, I am' sure that such a step is in the interests of the game. We could do with something like it in Australian golf.” Mr Winser declined to express any views about the leading New Zealand - players, but he thought that a New Zealand amateur team’s visit to Australia next year would be most warmly welcomed. New Zealand players might find some of the best Australian courses a little difficult to play for a start, for they were long and the requirements for accurate approaching were on many courses more stringent than they had been for the New Zealand championships at New Plymouth. The fast and true Australian greens would, however, admirably suit the bold putting which seemed to be a characteristic of the New Zealand style of play. “ I can promise you that none of us will readily forget our experiences in New Zealand,” Mr Winser said. “It has been a singularly happy tour. Members of the team were friends from the start, and there has not been the slightest suggestion of disagreement over any of the arrangements made for us in New Zealand. I cannot speak too highly of the hospitality we have received.”
