MAYORAL CONTESTS In the mayoral elections in other centres the results were:— Auckland: Mr J. A. C. Allum, Citizens’ candidate, was returned for a third term of office by 6541 votes over his Labour opponent, Mr F. /W. Schramm. Independent candidate, Mr G. V. Mullenger, lost his deposit. Wellington: W. Appleton (Citizens’), 26.257; N. R. Seddon (Labour). 21,636. Of 98,428 electors on .the roll only 47,883 voted. Christchurch: E. H. Andrews (Citizens’), 20,955; D. Barnes (Labour), 15.376: M. E. Lyons - (Independent), 4790. . , Invercargill: A. Wachner (re-elec-ted), 5514; W. M. C. Denham, 4517. Timaru: Mr A. E. S. Hanan was returned unopposed. Napier: T. W. Hercock (Citizens’). 3449: L. Poupard (Independent), 3417. Hastings: R- D. Brown (Citizens’), 4024; H. Kay (Labour), 884; S. B. Plumley (Independent), 668; H. I. Simpson (Independent), 400. Wanganui: W. J. Rogers M.L.G. sitting Mayor (Labour). 6592; A. C. Sievewright (Citizens’), 4845.
