NEEDS OF ESSENTIAL PRODUCTION MINISTER’S ASSURANCE Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. The whole basis of the present scheme precluded the Oil Fuel Controller from making special allocations of petrol' to individuals unless they themselves were the holders of private pumps, stated the Minister of Supply, Mr Nordmeyer, replying in the House of Representatives to-day to an urgent question by Mr W. (Oppn., Patea) and Mr E. B. Corbett (Oppn., Egmont). They had asked the Minister if he would instruct the Oil Fuel Controller to arrange, irrespective of the over-all reduction in the allocation of supplies to petrol resellers, for adequate supplies to be made available immediately to all resellers m rural areas to enable essential harvesting operations to proceed without interruption. • The Minister said that the supplies which were Being authorised to petrol resellers and private pump holders were adequate to cover the needs ol essential production. Petrol resellers had been requested to ensure that the requirements of essentia] users were met While the petrol - restrictions remained in force every effort would be made to ensure that essential users received the petrpl they required. At the same time, ii must be recognised that all consumers could effect economies in the use of petrol.
