SWIMMING

At a recent meeting of the Oamaru Amateur Swimming Club it was decided to offer to conduct the swimming competitions in conjunction with the Royal Life Saving Society’s forthcoming interhigh schools annual life-saving competitions. The club has a heavy season in front of it, and it was decided to put a coaching scheme into operation. Mr R. Hector was appointed convener to make full use of the extra club night granted by the Oamaru Borough Council. 'Several new senior members, Messrs P. White (exAshburton), A. S. Dowdle (ex-Hawe-a), W. Remington (ex-New Plymouth) and R. Hector (ex-Kiwi) intend to coach diving, freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. It was hoped that the club would be able to send strong teams to the New Zealand Swimming Championships at Dunedin and the country clubs’ tournament at Milton next vear
