EVENTUAL SELF-GOVERNMENT

FIRST LEGISLATIVE STEPS Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, Nov. 18.

The change in status of Western Samoa from a mandate to a trusteeship territory in accordance with the international trusteeship system of the United Nations is recognised by the Samoa Amendment Bill, which vvas introduced and read a first time in the House of Representatives to-day. The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, explained that the Bill embodied in legislative form the principles outlined by the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash, in a statement to the House in August.
