ADULT EDUCATION
REPRESENTATION ON COUNCIL CRITICISM OF NEW BILL Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. The opinion that too great representation had been given to universities on the National Council of Adult Education tp be instituted under the Adult Education Bill was expressed by Mr D. M. Rae (Oppn., Parnell) during the second reading debate on the Bill in the House of Representatives to-day. He said that one representative of each university council could give an adequate voice to the university viewpoint. Mr A. M. Finlay (Govt., North Shore) regretted that insufficient attention had been given to the arts, and he said that no one was to be appointed to the council as direct representatives of the arts.
Replying to the debate, the Minister of Education, Mr T. H, McCombs, said that several requests had been . received from women’s organisations for representatives to be appointed to the central council. He suggested that the committee stages of the Bill be deferred in order that adequate consideration could be given to that request." This course was adopted, and the Bill was read a second time. •
