Mr A. W. Mitchell, special correspondent of the New Zealand PreSs Association in London, arrived in Dunedin yesterday afternoon.

Macdonald, general secretary of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation, will visit Dunedin at the end of November, en route to Invercargill, where he will address members of the Manufacturers’ Association on his recent tour abroad. Mr Macdonald will address a general meeting of members of the Otago-Southland Manufac*urers’ Association in Dunedin on his return from Invercargill, on his experiences at the International Trade'.Conference at Geneva Mr Charles Brasch, • a nephew of the late Mr Willi Fels, was appointed by the University Council yesterday as a coopted member of the Otago Museum Committee. Messrs James Begg, A. C. Matheson and F M. Hanan have been appointed as representatives of the Association of Friends of the Mus.um. Congratulations were extended by the University Council at its monthly meeting yesterday to Mr C. Ilassall on his appointment to the chair of chemistry at the West Indies University, Jamaica, and to Mr W R. Geddes on being appointed a lecturer at Birkbeck College, London Mr Hassall was formerly on the staff of the Chemistry Department at the University of Otago, and Mr Geddes is an Otago graduate. * ■ The Presbytery of Dunedin met last evening in St. Andrew’s Church to license Messrs C. G. M. Angus. M. N. Dickey, R S Miller, and G. L. Nummy as preachers of the Gospel. The Moaerator, the Rev. R. S. Watson, conducted the service and the licentiates, who have lust completed their courses of study as candidates for the Presbyterian ministry, and are now eligible to receive calls from congregations, were addressed upon the essentials of the Christian ministry by the Very Rev. G H. McNeur. Mr George Howie, M.A., Ed.B., of Edinburgh, was yesterday appointed by the University Council as senior lecturer in education at the University of Otago. There were eight applications. Mr Howie was master of Kingussie High School, Edinburgh, until he enlisted for overseas service. He was posted to India and rpse to the rank of captain In the intelligence branch. After the war he was appointed to tjie staff of the Royal High School. Edinburgh, and in 1946 received a research scholarship in education. He was appointed senior lecturer at the Grahamstown University, South Africa, but had to refuse the appointmThe promotion of Mr J. D. McMillan to the position of assistant manager (passenger) for New Zealand is announced bv the Shaw Savill and Albion Company Mr McMillan joined the company's London office in 1933 and was appointed to the Wellington office in 1939 He • went to the London office of the company for a period and returned to New Zealand a year ago. The post of assistant passenger manager is stated to have been created to cope with the company’s expanding activities. #
