PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT' P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. “I have ordered the Public Works Department to place, the whole of its organisation at the disposal of the authorities in Christchurch,” said the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, to-night, when reports of the conflagration in that city were referred to him. “ The department has machinery, and whatever it can do to help will be done.”
