RETIRING MAYOR
MR H. S. WATSON TRIBUTES FROM COUNCIL A motion expressing appreciation of the services of the Mayor, Mr H. S Watson, who is not seeking re-elec-tion, was carried unanimously at the meeting of the Port Chalmers Borough Council last night. Cr W. D. Campbell, who moved the motion, said that the Mayor had always haa.the welfare of the residents at heart. He had given his services willingly, especially during the strenuous war years, and he had left an impression behind him that would not be forgotten. Cr Campbell referred to the Mayor’s energetic work on behalf of the Mussel Bay housing project
and the .Port Chalmers-Dunedin highway. He had heard high praise of Mr Watson's services on the Harbour Board, and his unfailing concern about all matters of policy affecting the interests of Port Chalmers. The motion of appreciation was seconded by Cr C. V. Knewstubb, and endorsed by other councillors. A practical tribute to the retiring Mayor and Mrs Watson was advocated by Cr Jv Matthews, who moved that the proposed new recreation ground ai Mussel Bay should bear their name Cr Campbell seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously.
