GOOD MILE AT RICCARTON Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 8. There was some smart work on the course proper at Riccarton this morning. Wide Range ran the best mile, to beat Grand Melee easily in lmin 41 3-ssec. Banshee was well clear of Zorro in lmin 43 2-ssec. Excellency trailed Kartikeya and Sweet Nymph, and beat them home in lmin 44sec, but Kartikeya could have done better. Royal Tan and Palm Bearer finished comfortably in lmin 45sec. Nightchild was four lengths in front of Miss Medley over a mile and a-quar-ter, the last mile in lmin 45 2-ssec. Some of the two-year-olds showed a lot of speed. Magical was outstanding, with five furlongs in lmin 1 2-ssec, as he was under a good hold at the finish. His mate, Musselman, ran half a mile in 48 4-sssc. Bowling G>een recorded 48 3-ssec, Eulogize and Peridot 49sec, Balkis and Motif 49 2-osec, Rosa Leigh and Good Shot 49 3-ssec, and Finigan 49 4-ssec. Al-Sirat pleased more than Wane over four hurdles.
