ROYAL WEDDING
NO PUBLIC HOLIDAY DISPLAY OF FLAGS REQUESTED P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 15. The royal wedding- day next Thursday will not be declared a public holiday in New Zealand, and business premises will not be asked to close down for any part of that day, said the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, this afternoon. Government buildings throughout New Zealand would fly flags and bunting throughout the whole of Thursday, and he was making a public appeal to Mayors of cities and boroughs, chairmen of county councils, and all other local bodies concerned and business people generally to arrange a liberal display of flags and bunting on that day, said Mr Fraser. “By this means, we could show the Princess and Lieutenant Mounlbatten that the people are all sharing with them, and with their Majesties the King and Queen and the other members of the Royal Family, the joy of this happy dav, and once again demonstrate the loyalty and affection of the Government and people of New Zealand to the Throne,” said the Prime Minister. Mr Fraser asked all Mayors and local body chairmen and others concerned to accept this announcement as a formal request to them to take action. He suggested they might also take any other action which in their own localities they might think a fitting way to mark this important day in the life of the Heir to the Throne.
