Extra Saving Required from Private Motorists

P.A. WELLINGTON, Nov. 14. “Any motorist who is under the impression that he will be observing the 10 per cent, petrol cut by reducing his 10-gallon consumption to nine gallons will be sadly disillusioned,” said Mr W. M. King, past president of the New Zealand Retail Motor Trade Association, to-day. Mr King said the Government had asked resellers to see that consumers in productive work and essential industries received sufficient petrol not to retard their work. Thus the private motorist would probably have to be “knocked back.” The amount of petrol being used in the month was well over 10,000,000 gallons, and the new allocation required that this be kept within 8,800,000 gallons. Mr King expressed the opinion that resellers would have difficulty in sharing out the petrol equally over the month.
