NO THREAT TO PEACE
TREATMENT OF INDIANS IN SOUTH AFRICA
SIR CARL BERENDSEN’S VIEW LAKE SUCCESS, Rec. 11 p.m. Nov. 12. During the debate on the treatment of Indians in South Africa, Sir Carl Berendsen (New Zealand) to-day told the Political Committee: “No one in his right senses would suggest that the situation in South Africa constituted a threat to peace and security. The Assembly should refrain from any decision of substance and should refer the matter at once to the International Court of Justice to resolve legal doubts involved in the question.” Sir Carl opposed the Indian resolution proposing a round-table conference between the parties to the dispute.
