WATERSIDE WORKERS
BIENNIAL CONFERENCE WIDE FIELD FOR DISCUSSION Industrial Correspondent. WELLINGTON, Nov. 13. The waterfront workers’ Parliament —the biennial conference of the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Unionwill open in Wellington on November 25, with Mr H. Barnes, national president, of Auckland, presiding. Discussion on remits is likely to cover the whole field of political and industrial affairs but matters of particular importance will include future policy on wages and hours on the waterfront, and the proposed panPacific organisation of waterside workers. The conference will elect a national vice-president and national executive, but the two principal offices, those of national president and secretary, will be filled by secret ballot of the membership to be taken at all ports in February. It is expected that Mr Barnes will again be a candidate for the presidency, and that the secretary, Mr T. Hill, will also seek re-election.
