TAX EVASION DIFFICULT
TIMARU COMPANY FINED P A. 1 TIMARU, Nov. 13. “To-day the Income Tax Department is better equipped, better staffed, and it has ways and means of finding things out. Every taxpayer who has no opportunity to carry out any tax evasions will be happy to know this,” declared Mr W. D. Campbell in the Timaru Magistrate’s Court to-day when the Regent Milk Bar, Ltd., was charged on four counts of wilfully furnishing false returns of income totalling £852. The charges were of furnishing false returns of income in 1944. 1945, 1946, and 1947. The defendant firm pleaded guilty on each charge and w r as fined £SO.
