PROPERTY DISAPPEARS

EARMARKED FOR ALLIES N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 8.30 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 11. The special correspondent of the News Chronicle in Tokio says that investigations into the disappearance of property valued at £80,000,000 earmarked for seizure by the Allies, show that at least one member of the Imperial family is involved. He is Prince Nigashikuni, who was chosen by Hirohito as Japan’s first Prime Minister under General MacArthur. He is now running a grocery store. The investigations; which are still in the preliminary stages, show that in defiance of Allied directives, huge quantities of goods were sent to private sub-contractors who made large fortunes out of their sale. The profits in these dealings went to Japanese financiers and militarists who have been living on their gains for the past two years. Many of the goods are believed to be plunder from Malaya. Hongkong, Indonesia, China and the Philippines. Higashikoni was recently dismissed from an army position because it is believed that he was responsible for secret orders regarding this traffic.
