ATTACKED AND BOUND
CHINESE SHOPKEEPER’S EXPERIENCE SUM OF OVER £IOO MISSING P.A. GISBORNE. Nov. 12. Beaten into semi-insensibility and bound, a Chinese fruiterer, Willie King, whose shop is in the main street of Opotiki, was robbed last night of over £IOO by his assailant. According to the police information, a man entered the shop about 10 n.m. and asked for a cabbage. When the Chinese turned, the visitor pounded him with his fists. The victim was thrown gainst a glass showcase, suffering cuts on the face and body. While the Chinese was semi-conscious the assailant carried him into an adjoining room, bound him with a rope, and covered his head with a bag. He then took over £IOO in cash from a bedroom and decamped. Some time later the Chinese escaped from his bonds and struggled to the premises of a compatriot, who notified the police. The victim this morning was reported to be. badly battered, but his condition is not serious.
