“DEAD MARINES”
CONSIGNMENTS FOR AUCKLAND When the coastal freighter Waiana sails for Auckland, via ports, to-mor-row, she will take 1500 (lozen empty beer bottles. Another Union Company ship, the Waimarino will take about 1000 dozen more “ dead marines ” next week. It is expected that a temporary shortage will develop in Auckland about Christmas time. A Dunedin dealer pointed out to the Daily Times that all new bottles were circulated from Auckland but because fewer bottles had been delivered than were ordered, the seasonal demand at Christmas would probably create a temporary shortage. For this reason Dunedin and other towns which had plentiful stocks, were consigning quantities to Auckland.
