HOGGETS IN DEMAND P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 12. The store sheep entry at Addington today was 3617, being made up of 960 ewes and lambs, 918 hoggets and 1689 wethers. The demand for ewes and lambs was not as good as in recent weeks, but the inquiry was nevertheless still sound. The top price was 34s 9d for a useful lot of fine woolled ewes with good lambs, best made 27s 6d and 34s 9d and others were from 20s 3d to 27s 6d. A pen of shorn ewes with lambs made 225. The wether yarding consisted of Chathams Romneys with the exception of one pen. The tup price was 445, best making 40s 6d to the top price, and others from 34s lOd to 40s. The hogget entry was too small for requirements and a large number of buyers were unsatisfied, the prices being fully up to last week. Best made to 40s lOd, good 35s to 38s 6d and others were down to 295. The fat lamb entry was 495, all ot good quality. After a steady start at a shade below last week the values depreciated sharply and at the end of the sale were 8s below opening rates. Values: Extra prime lambs, to 57s Id; prime, 40s to 465; good, 35s to 395; medium and light, 31s to 345. The fat sheep entry was 5500, including Chathams and Marlborough sheep. The quality was good, but the “ tail" was rather long. Ewes opened at 3s to 4s below last week, and the inquiry was steady throughout at lower prices. Wethers were 2s lower at the start, but later improved to within Is of last week. Hoggets were about Is up. Values: Extra prime heavy wethers, 57s to 59s Id; prime heavy, 51s. to 565; prime medium-weight, 44s to 50s; ordinary and light, 34s to 425. Extra prime hoggets, 47s to 59s Id; prime, 41s to 465; medium and light, 34s to 40s. Prime heavy ewes, 37s to 41s 7d; prime medium-weight, 32s to 365; ordinary, 28s tc 31s; light and unfinished, 22s to 265. The fat cattle entry of 592 was of mixeu quality and the yarding contained a large proportion of plain steers and heifers as well as old and plain cows. Bidding was erratic throughout and for all but extra choice the market was back £1 to £1 10s. The buying was restricted because of the holiday on Friday. Best beef made to 75s per 100, with some at 77s 6d; good, 50s to 62s 6d; and medium, 42s Gd to 50s. Best cow made to 50s and secondary to 37s 6d. Values: Extra prime heavy steers, to £33 17s 6d; prime heavy, £27 to £29; prime medium-weight, £2l to £26; ordinary and light, £l6 to £2O. Extra prime heifers, to £24 12s 6d; prime, £ls to £l9; ordinary and light, £lO to £l4. Extra prime cows, to £23 2s 6d; prime, £ll to £l7; ordinary and light, £6 to £lO. The porker yarding was of medium size and the demand was much easier. Choppers were also in medium supply, but values showed little change on last week. Baconers were forward in small numbers and values appreciated by 4s to 5s a head. Values: Light porkers, £3 13s 6d to £3 19s 6d; medium, £4 3s Od to £4 14s 6d; heavy, £4 19s 6d to £5 14s Gd. Choppers, £3 11s to £lO 18s; light baconers, £5 19s 6d to £6 12s 6d; medium, £6 17s Gd to £7 2s 6d; heavy, £7 4s 6d to £7 12s 6d; extra heavy, £7 14s 6d to £8 4s 6d.
