RETRACTION OF CHARGE
REPLY TO MR CAMERON BY MR JONES
Replying to Mr Cameron’s request that he should retract his charge that Mr Cameron had failed to keep a' promise to convene a meeting to discuss the provision of new baths for the city, Mr E. F. Jones, Labour candidate for the Mayoralty, told his audience at Anderson’s Bay last night that the only meeting recorded was one to discuss a sports centre, which included a swimming pool. It had been agreed that the Caledonian Ground be made into a sports centre, but since then this proposal had not been adopted. Mr Jones asked if Mr Cameron could, tell of any other proposal to provide new swimming baths for the city. Had a site been selected? What plans for a pool had been prepared? Could Mr Cameron give the information to show how the plans of nine years and a-half ago had been implemented? With the present water supply for the city, where would the water be obtained for new baths during the summer months? What did Mr Cameron propose in connection with Chingford and other baths controlled by the City Council? Had any tenders been called for baths? Could ,Mr Cameron say what was wrong with Chingford? Would Mr Cameron like to give his policy and that of the Citizens’ Association in respect to other activities? Would Mr Cameron explain his change of front in respect to buses and trams? Why did he bring down reports on the eve of an election? Mr Jones said that answers to those questions would be appreciated.
