PHOSPHATE SHIPMENT
DIVERTED TO DUNEDIN SUPPLIES URGENTLY NEEDED Diverted from Lyttelton, the 7000-ton steamer Marabank will come direct to Port Chalmers from Nauru and Ocean Islands, bringing phosphate urgently required by the fertiliser works at Ravensbourne and Burnside. She will arrive at Port Chalmers on Monday. The stocks were very low, said the manager of one fertiliser firm yesterday, and the works would be just “ scratching along ” until the Marabank brought relief. The ship had been diverted, he said, so that production mieht not cease. The Marabank, which will unload at Pert Chalmers and also at Ravensbourne, is carrying 9600 tons of phosphate. This will be one of the largest cargoes of its kind ever to be discharged at the Port of Otago.
