PARLIAMENT
EXCESS PROFITS TAX SECOND READING DEBATE (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON Oct. 8. The main business of the House of Representatives to-day was the opening of the second reading debate on the Excess Profits Tax Bill. The. debate was inaugurated by the Minister of Finance. Mr Nash, who was followed by the Leader of the Opposition. Mr Hamilton, the Attorney-general, Mr H, G. R. Mason, Mr W. S. Goosman (Opposition Waikato) and Mr C. H Chapman (Govt., Wellington North). Urgency is to be taken for the debate to-morrow. This afternoon tributes were paid to the late Mr John Hutcheson, a former member of Parliament, and the House adjourned until the evening as a’mark of respect. The House rose at 10.30 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. to-morrow.
