FINE BUT COOL Forecast for Otago. —The following official weather forecast for Otago, covering the ensuing 24 hours, was issued at 5 p.m. yesterday by the Meteorological Office in Wellington:— Light to moderate south-easterly. winds predominating. Weather fair to fine, but cool. Seas slight to moderate. Dominion Forecast.— The depression that formed in the Cook Strait area has now moved north of Taranaki and v will probably cross the North Island. An anti-cyclone is centred south of the South Island, while another is located in the Western Tasman Sea. Weather becoming. fair to fine over most , of the South Island: unsettled •over the -North Island, with further rain,,but improving from the west and south, with conditions becoming of the changeable, showery type. . Temperatures cold, with snow on the high country of the North Island and with some severe frosts in the South Island. Weather in Dunedin.— A cold south wind prevailed yesterday and brief rain showers were frequent. Conditions were slightly better in the afternoon, but the temperature did not rise above 51 degrees. The barometer rose steadily to 30.21 inches (1023 millibars). It fell, slightly in the evening, and at midnight the reading was 30.20 inches (1023 millibars). Barometer, inches and millibars: 8 a.m. 30.15 (1021); noon. 30.18 (1022): 6 p.m., 30.21 (1023); midnight, 30.20 (1023). Thermometer: 8 a.m., 43 degrees; noon. 49 degrees; 6 p.m., 48 degrees: midnight, 40 degrees. Maximum, 50 degrees; minimum, 41 degrees. Rainfall for 24 hours ended midnight yesterday—.o7in.
