MISHAP TO LORRY

COLLISION WITH POWER POLE ELECTRIC SUPPLY INTERRUPTED (Special to Daily Times) WELLINGTON, Oct. 8. A heavy lorry loaded with salt struck a power pole on the Hutt road shortly before noon to-day, and a number of power lines were brought down. The pole did not fall, but its base was shifted bodily for several inches. As a result, there an interference with the supply of electric power in Wellington and the Hutt Valley, The accident occurred a few hundred yards north of Ngahauranga. The front axle of the lorry was torn off and the vehicle suffered other serious damage, but the driver was unhurt. It it believed that the accident occurred owing to a fault in the steering gear.
