QUIET NIGHT IN LONDON FEW PLANES CROSS COAST (By Wireless) DAVENTRY, Oct. 7. The Air Ministry states that last night London experienced its quietest night of the war. A single plane dropped, a few bombs early in the evening, but they caused little damage and no casualties. Just before dawn, a few planes crossed the coast, but did not penetrate the London defences. They dropped a few bombs, but they caused practically no damage or casualties. PETAIN GOVERNMENT FOREIGN REPORTS DENIED VICHY, Oct. 7. (Received Oct. 8, at 2 a.m.) Foreign reports that the Axis invited the Petain Government to declare war on Britain are officially denied. A NEW GOLDFIELD DISCOVERY IN CENTRAL ASIA MOSCOW, Oct. 7. (Received Oct. 8, at 2 a.m.) A new goldfield, which is stated to be one of the largest in Central Asia, has been discovered on the River Angren, 50 miles from Tashkent. . UNITED STATES FLEET QUESTION OF DISPOSITION WASHINGTON, Oct. 7. (Received Oct. 8, at 2 a.m.) Admiral Richardson flew from the coast and will confer to-day with the Secretary of the Navy, Colonel Knox, and it is thought that a decision concerning the disposition of the United States Fleet is likely. Diplomats said that implementation of the entire Far Eastern policy may hinge on the outcome of the conference and they presume that a wide range of subjects will be discussed bearing on the United States ability to maintain her position as a supporter of the Far Eastern status quo, including the possible joint use of Singapore and Australian bases.
