LONDON’S SHELTERS
MINISTERIAL PARTY’S TOUR SIR EDWARD EVANS CHEERED (British Official Wirnlessl RUGBY; Oct. 4. Admiral Sir Edward Evans ried out another tour of London’s air raid shelters last night, lasting several hours. He was accompanied by the Minister of Health, Mr Malcolm MacDonald, Lord Horder, chairman of the committee which is advising the Government on shelter questions, and Mr William Mabane, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Home Security. The tour covered tube stations, including Holborn and Liverpool street, and many types of public shelters in the city, Finsbury, Holborn, and Bethnal Green.
Sir Edward Evans and his party talked freely with the people, wardens, and shelter marshals. He was immediately recognised by people In the shelters and was often cheered for several minutes. The visit ended at the Finsbury Town Hall in the early hours, while an anti-aircraft barrage was in full blast. Shrapnel was falling round the party as it drove away.
