“ You don’t want to take any notice of any rumours you hear concerning us back home,” writes a soldier in the first echelon to his mother in Christchurch when discussing stories about how the men in Egypt have been partially overlooked in Patriotic Fund distributions. “Seeing is believing,”jthe letter continues. “ The patriotic people are doing all they can for us just now. Shipping is the difficulty.” He goes on to say that when the troops go into active service, it was then that they wanted help from the fund. They were helped in many little ways when they were “up there” last time.
