WASTE MATERIALS
RESPONSE TO APPEAL GRATIFICATION OF MINISTER LARGE QUANTITIES COLLECTED (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 6. “ I have been very pleased with the results of the campaign for the reclamation of waste,” said the Minister of Supply. Mr D. G. Sullivan, today. “The central council and the various local committees have given splendid service, and the response of the public has been excellent. The enthusiasm with which the project has been taken up has exceeded the most sanguine expectations, and the appeal for non-ferrous metals has_ produced a quantity of material that will be most helpful. “It will be readily understood,” said the Minister, “ that it serves no good purpose in reclaiming waste material until such time as arrangements are made for its effective utilisation. The present appeal, therefore, is for nonferrous metals, and I would ask the public to retain other materials until an appeal is launched for their collection. My officers have the various sections well in hand, and full information regarding their requirements will be given as arrangements for materials other than non-ferrous metals are completed. Until that appeal is launched. I would ask that they be stored.”
