PERSECUTION OF JEWS
HARSH DECREES IN FRANCE LONDON, Oct. 4. A correspondent of The Times on the French frontier says: “ Independently of the Vichy persecution of Jews, German-occupied France is promulgating its own anti-semitic laws, and the Germans have ordered the immediate registration of Jews. Rabbis have been ordered to supply complete lists of their congregations and Jews who fled to the unoccupied zone will not be allowed to return. Those not registering are liable to confiscation of their property. A decree compels Jewish shopkeepers to affix a notice to their windows: 1 1 am a Jew.’ ”
