SYDNEY TO AUCKLAND PASSENGER BY FLYING-BOAT (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 6. For the first time since the Tasman air service was inaugurated, one of its flying boats, the Awarua, was used to carry a hospital patient, who travelled the whole way on a stretcher. The passenger was a young man, Mr A. E. Butterwo’iih. who was accompanied by his father. Mr J. G. Butterworth. a farmer, of Te Rore. near Pirongia, King Country. Mr Butterworth, sen., took his son to Sydney by steamer some little time ago for examination by surgeons with a view to a possible operation. It was decided, however, that the latter should not be performed. Although there were. 14 other passengers in the flying boat, space was found for the stretcher, and the patient was made perfectly comfortable, his father and a steward tending him throughout the trip. On arrival, he was placed in an ambulance, which look the father and son to Hamilton.
