BOXING

GILDO BEATS RAYNER (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON. Oct. 5.' By a masterly display of in-fighting Young Gildo outpointed Clarrie Rayner (Blenheim) in a 12 three-minute rounds professional boding contest in the Town Hall on Saturday night. Gildo employed the identical tactics which enabled him to beat Johnny Hutchison in Wellington recently, crowding his man relentlessly and getting in close on every possible occasion. Gildo piled up points with jabs to the head and slams to the ribs. Rayner tried to fight at long range, and did well at times, but Gildo called the tune and won a clear-cut victory. It was a spirited display by the two outstanding light-weights in the Dominion at present.
