BRIDGE DRIVE

NAVY QUEEN TO BENEFIT Navy Queen funds will be augmented substantially by the proceeds of a bridge and mah jongg drive held on Thursday night in the Crawford Lounge, with subsidiary tables in private homes. The Lounge, which had been kindly lent for the occasion, was artistically decorated with blossom and spring flowers, the work of the organising committee, the members of which were Mrs J. H. Fotheringham (convener)—who wore black chiffon velvet relieved at the neckline with pearl pink georgette, and to whom a pretty spray of flowers was given—Mrs R. D. A. Jamieson, Mrs R. .1 Watts, Mrs E. Leahy, Misses D. McHutcheson and Hunter-Wcston. Apologies were received from the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs A. H Allen) and the president of the Olago branch of the Navy League (Mr J. Sutherland Ross) and Mrs Ross. At supper-time the Navy Queen (Miss Jessie McLennan) paid the function a visit. She wore a graceful gown of black lace with a short fur bolero and a spray of scarlet flowers, and was introduced to those present by Mr Kaiford, chairman of the Navy Queen Committee. Miss McLennan briefly addressed the players, thanking them for their support. Those who had arranged tabies in f.Ue Lounge included Mesdames W. F. Edmond. Cantrell, Bremner, A. H. Myles, E. The monthly meeting of the South Hill Institute was held on Wednesday last. It was decided to support the Dug-out on Friday. October 11, and members agreed to help at the gala on Saturday.
