PETROL RATIONING
CUTS IN COMMERCIAL LICENCES MINISTER’S FIGURES CHALLENGED (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 3. . The further statement of the Government’s policy in restriction of the use of petrol, made by the Minister of Supply (Mr D. G. Sullivan) yesterday, is criticised by Mr Knight, secretary of the Motor Trade Federation, and Mr Batt, chairman of the executive of the Wellington Automobile Association. Mr Knight says that the Minister quoted percentage figures to show that the effect of the cuts in commercial licences since June had been negligible, 3.5 per cent.; but from information made available to him by petrol resellers the cut had been very much higher. If, in giving the figure, the Minister divided all consumers into private and commercial, it might be possible to arrive at such a low figure, as the Government and army supplies would be included in the latter. Mr Batt says their criticism Pas been constructive, and their co-opera-tion has been freely offered.
