Mr G. A. Lewin returned by yesterday afternoon’s express from Wellington.
Mr Garth Gallaway was a passenger for Christchurch by the through express yesterday. Mr E. A. 1 Winchester, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, has returned to Lawrence from his annual leave, which was spent on the West Coast.
Mr S, Ritchie, conciliation commissioner, ax-rived in Dunedin by yesterday afternoon’s express from Christchurch. and will leave again for the north this morning. The Rev. J. H. Robertson who has charge of St. Peter’s Church. Christchurch, returned north by the through express yesterday. i The Rev. J. G. Laughton, superintendent of the Maori Mission, has been nominated by the Waikato- Presbytei-y as moderator of, the General Assemblv of the Presbyterian Church. Passengers by the north-bound plane yesterdav were Mr A. F. Speight for Christchurch, Mr A. W Israel for Auckland, Mr Hayward and Dr N. T. Mirams for Wellington. Passengers by the south-bound olane were Mr W. Waymouth from Palmerston North and Mr F. G. Dunn from Christchurch Word has been x’eceived that Dr Lindsay Rogers, son of Mrs D H. Rogers. of Roslyn, has been appointed surgeon-specialist in a British military base hospital, and promoted to the rank of major. Dr Rogers left New Zealand in February last to enlist in the British Army and since then has been attached to a field ambulance unit Mr G. Bowie, secondary teacher at the local Distinct High School, x-eturned to Lawx-ence on Monday after spending a year in England studying at the London University. Dr J. D. Salmond left yesterday for Melbourne, where he will represent the Youth Committee of the Presbyterian Church at the triennial meeting of the Joint Board of the Graded Lessons of Australia and New Zealand Dr Salmond will be absent from New Zealand for about three weeks.
Dr Hugh Keith who recently arrived in New Zealand from India, has been appointed resident medical officer at the No. 2 elementary flying training school at Bel] Block, New Plymouth. Dr Keith is the father of Flightlieutenant lan Keith, formerly instructor of the New Plymouth Aero Club, and'now on the permanent staff of the air station.
