A RESHUFFLE
BRITISH MINISTRY MR CHAMBERLAIN RESIGNS WAR CABINET ENLARGED TWO NEW MEMBERS (By Wireless) LONDON, Oct. 3. (Received Oct. 4, at 0.30 a.m.) Mr Chamberlain has resigned from the War Cabinet. Following the resignation of Mr Chamberlain, there has been a reshuffle of Ministerial portfolios. Sir John Anderson leaves the Ministry of Home Security to become Lord President of the Council in place of Mr Chamberlain.
Mr Herbert Morrison relinquishes his portfolio as Minister of Supply to become Minister of Home Security Sir Andrew Duncan, formerly president of the Board of Trade, becomes Minister of Supply. Captain Oliver Lyttelton becomes the new president of the Board of Trade. Captain Lyttelton, who is not a member of the House of Commons was formerly controller of nonferrous metals.
Sir John Reith is appointed to a new Ministry, and becomes Minister of Works and Buildings and also first Commissioner of Works. He has been created a baron. Lord Caldecotc succeeds Lord Hewart as Lord Chief Justice. Viscount Cranbourne succeeds Lord Caldecote as Dominions Secretary. Mr J. T. C. Brabazon succeeds Sir John Reith as Minister of Transport. Sir Kingsley Wood, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Mr Ernest Bevin, Minister of Labour, are appointed members of the War Council which now comprises eight members—the Prime Minister. Sir John Anderson. Lord Halifax, Mr C. R. Attlee, Mr Arthur Greenwood, Lord Beaverbrook, Sir Kingsley Wood, and Mr Bevin.
