ST. PETER’S CHURCH

ANNUAL BAZAAR The . annual bazaar organised by St. Peter’s Ladies’ Guild was opened yesterday by the Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen). Prior to the' Mayor’s address the vicar (the Rev A. B. Pywell) conveyed his congratulations to the president (Mrs Homer) and secretary (Mrs H. C. Flinders) and guild members upon the attractive appearance of the stalls, and made sympathetic reference to the sudden passing of Mesdames Saxton and W. Martin, who had given years of faithful service to the guild and were working alongside the others 12 months ago. An expression of appreciation of the Mayor’s willingness to make time in his busy life to come out and open the function was made also by the vicar. Mr Allen, in reply, said he and the Mayoress always felt they were coming home whenever they visited St. Peter’s, and were glad to be of service. He gave some early reminiscences of the parish, congratulated the guild on its display and wished success to their efforts beyond their highest hopes. Mr W. Homan, people’s warden, on behalf of the parishioners. thanked the Mayor for his attendance and remarked that the Ladies' Guild had alwavs been a valuable institution in the parish.
